Phil Vahey, Ph.D.
Phil Vahey, Ph.D., has been leading learning science research and development projects for over 20 years. He has led projects funded by the National Science Foundation, the US Department of Education, philanthropic foundations, and commercial clients. Most recently he was the Director of Applied Learning Sciences for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and before that he was the Director of Strategic Research and Innovation at SRI Education. Throughout his work he has focused on applying learning science principles at scale, with a focus on equity. He has worked on projects as varied as developing and evaluating large-scale middle school math interventions, developing iPad apps for early childhood math and science learning, and leading SRI’s Ready to Learn evaluation. He received his MA and Ph.D. from the UC Berkeley School of Education.
